Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Tennis Coach to join our athletic department. The successful candidate will be responsible for coaching, training, and developing our tennis players, fostering a positive and competitive environment, and promoting the values of sportsmanship and teamwork. The Tennis Coach will design and implement training programs, manage team practices, and lead the team in competitions.

Key Responsibilities:

Coaching and Training:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive training programs tailored to the skill levels of the players.
  • Conduct regular practice sessions focusing on skill development, strategy, physical conditioning, and mental preparation.
  • Provide individual and group coaching to enhance players’ technical and tactical skills.

Team Management:

  • Plan and organize team practices, matches, and tournaments.
  • Assess and evaluate players’ performance and provide constructive feedback.
  • Foster a positive team environment that encourages sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth.
  • Manage team logistics, including travel arrangements and equipment needs.

Player Development:

  • Identify and nurture talent within the team, providing pathways for player development and advancement.
  • Develop and implement individualized training plans for players to address specific areas of improvement.
  • Monitor players’ academic performance and support their overall well-being.

Competition and Strategy:

  • Develop game strategies and analyse opponents to prepare the team for competitions.
  • Lead the team during matches and tournaments, making real-time decisions to enhance performance.
  • Review game footage and provide feedback to players for continuous improvement.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate records of player statistics, training sessions, and match outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, school administrators, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and guidelines governing school sports.

Professional Development:

  • Stay updated on the latest coaching techniques, trends, and developments in tennis.
  • Attend coaching clinics, workshops, and relevant conferences to enhance coaching skills.

The ideal candidate must have the following qualities:

  • A PLAY Tennis Trainer Level, or higher.
  • A certification with Tennis South Africa (TSA).
  • Previous experience in coaching tennis at various levels.
  • Involvement in the developing and implementing training programmes.
  • Full understanding of the latest coaching methodologies & trends.
  • Foster a positive and encouraging environment for young athletes.
  • Physical ability to demonstrate tennis techniques and participate in training sessions.
  • Must be flexible with working hours to accommodate training and match schedules.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; having a proven ability to work as part of a team.
  • Be self-motivated, organised, and energetic, and be able to promote physical fitness and sporting excellence.
  • Have an understanding of the Long-Term Athlete Development philosophy.
  • Have police clearance; sexual offenders’ clearance; and child protection clearance.
