St Charles College, founded in 1875, is an independent Christian Boys’ College situated in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, catering for day boys from Grade 000 to Matric with boarders from Grade 4 upwards. The College has written the University of Cambridge International IGCSE, AS Level and A Level Examinations since 2002.

EXPANSION OF MUSIC DEPARTMENT

Music Teachers Full Time/Part Time

St Charles College is looking to expand our Music Department and requires two talented, qualified, hardworking teachers with particular strengths to help us drive and reinforce the extraordinary music platform we have developed and established, as an integral strand of boys education. It is hoped that the right candidates will be ready for a 1 January 2025 start, or the nearest possible date thereafter.

The Music Department requirements include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Teaching Cambridge IGCSE and AS Level Music.
  • Teaching Senior Primary Class Music.
  • Supporting music groups/ensembles, including but not limited to Senior School Choir and Chamber Choir.
  • Development of the College’s music imperatives.
  • Strengthening and integrating the positive music culture in the whole College.
  • Extensive performance opportunities for the boys

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A professional music qualification and capacity to teach Cambridge IGCSE and AS Level Music.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in teaching Subject Music, and preferably at Cambridge IGCSE and AS Level.
  • Instrument strength in one of piano or voice. Other instruments would be advantageous.
  • A desire to engender a love for, and appreciation of, music in the boys of the College.
  • Knowledge of the needs of boys, and their particular requirements for learning and mastering music.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and sound administrative ability.
  • An ability to work within the Christian values and mission of the College, and a willingness to contribute to the broader life of the College.
