MEDIA & COMMUNICATION OFFICER

Dainfern College is an independent English-medium, co-educational school situated on Broadacres Drive, Dainfern, north of Fourways in Johannesburg. The College caters for Grades 0-12 and offers the IEB Matric as the school exit exam. Our ethos is Christian and is based on the core concept of respect. Dainfern College requires a Media & Communication Officer to work as a member of the school’s Communication & Marketing team. The successful candidate will take up the position on 1 January 2024 or soonest thereafter.

The successful candidate will report to the Communication Manager within the Advancement office structure.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Management and updating of the school website and smartphone app in alignment with College strategy and brand identity.
  • Management of and content creation for the school’s social media and other digital marketing platforms in alignment with College strategy and brand identity.
  • Content creation for digital and print media, including writing editorial, taking photos of campus events and activities etc. Simple video editing may be required.
  • Editing of the annual school magazine.
  • Assistance with design, creation and content checking (proofreading) of newsletters, school documentation and internal and external marketing and communication material.

The successful candidate will need:

  • A relevant tertiary degree, preferably in digital marketing, communication or similar.
  • Proven work experience in Media and Communication or similar role, with experience in the education sector a strong advantage.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with excellent proficiency in written and spoken English and a keen eye for detail.
  • Proven ability to proofread and check written content, with editing and writing experience an advantage.
  • Experience and proven competency in social media content creation, posting and community engagement.
  • Website management experience, with knowledge of WordPress essential.
  • A high standard of computer literacy: Google suite; MS Office including Publisher; Adobe suite, especially InDesign and Photoshop; simple video editing.
  • Effective administrative ability (planning and organisation) and commitment to meeting deadlines.
  • To be self-motivated and proactive with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
  • Be willing to attend events outside of normal working hours.
  • To enjoy a busy environment and be prepared to multitask and assist where necessary.
