Maintenance and Facilities Manager
The Diocesan School for Girls in Makhanda (Grahamstown) invites applications for the position of:MAINTENANCE AND FACILITIES MANAGER
The successful candidate will assist the DSG Estate Manager with respect to repairs and maintenance across the
DSG campus, as well as attended to the services and equipment that supply and support the optimal functioning of facilities.
The successful candidate will be a highly skilled maintenance person that has a broad capability,knowledge and hands-on experience to undertake effective repairs and maintenance work and would require the following:
- Experience in the building industry, with a proven record of all-round knowledge of and workings with carpentry, plumbing, walling, paving, roofing, flooring, painting and electrics.
- Experience in the management of facilities, with a proven track record in attending to services and equipment that supply and support the facilities.
- Experience of working in a school and/or residential complex environment would be beneficial.
- Experience and sound knowledgeable in the ordering, purchasing and management of appropriate materials and stocks.
- Experience in managing third-party contractors.
- Experience in drawing up budgets and managing financials and stock items.
- A proven track record of being able to operate independently and lead a team.
- Good planning and organization skills, with a professional approach to work.
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English. The ability to converse in isiXhosa and/or Afrikaans would be an added advantage.
• Good computer skills for communication (emails/ Word) and budget/stock management (Excel).
• Able to work outside of normal school operating hours and be on standby, when required.
• A valid driver’s license and own transport, as well as being able to respond quickly to after-hour callouts when on standby duty.
• Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
