LOCUM HISTORY TEACHER

We seek to appoint a knowledgeable and passionate locum History Teacher for a limited period from 1 March 2025 to 31 May 2025, for Grade 8 – 11. The ideal candidate will have a strong subject knowledge, an appreciation for the relevance of history in today’s world, and a commitment to fostering a love of learning alongside high academic achievement. This role also includes a small teaching component within the Perspectives curriculum.

Main Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the importance and relevance of history by delivering engaging lessons using diverse instructional materials, fostering a love of learning alongside high academic achievement
  • Guide students through diverse teaching strategies and create an inspiring and effective learning environment that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and historical inquiry while fostering supportive relationships with students
  • Demonstrate and maintain strong subject knowledge with an eagerness to continue learning and collaborating with colleagues, leadership, and parents to support student success and contribute to departmental goals
  • Teach student-driven lessons from the St John’s College Perspectives curriculum, focusing on themes of self-awareness, citizenship, and sustainability

Minimum requirements

  • Qualifications: Relevant degree (BA with History or an appropriate subject as a major)
  • SACE registration

Experience

  • Two or more years senior high school history teaching experience
  • IEB teaching experience is advantageous
