The ADvTECH Schools Division leads the private sector in the field of education, contributing meaningfully towards the sustainable development of human capacity in South Africa.
To be responsible for all duties as required of a Laboratory Assistant, including but not limited to: setting up equipment, chemicals and supplies for chemistry, physics and biology laboratories;
Maintain and oversee inventory of equipment and chemical supplies including ordering and handling the required chemicals and gasses under the direction of the teachers;
Properly sterilize equipment and glassware using the appropriate solvents;
Knowledgeable about proper disposal of chemical waste and bio waste
Research and test the efficiency of new and exciting alternative experiments;
Managing storage system of chemicals and glassware
Prepare buffer solutions of a given pH and calibrate the pH meter, prepare chemical indicators and biological stain solutions using appropriate quantities of reagents;
Assist teachers in supervising activities, setting and invigilating practical exam papers, moderating and marking the practical exam papers;
Managing of Fish Tanks
Managing a collection of animals in terraria
Excellent interpersonal skills with colleagues, pupils and parents;
Energetic, self-motivated and able to use own initiative;
Ability to work within a team;
Ability to multi-task and handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously;
Good organisational skills;
Good communication skills;
Computer literacy skills is imperative.
Minimum requirement is a recognised Science Degree and/or a 4-year professional Qualification Science related fields.
Must have experience working in a laboratory in the same or similar type of position in a similar environment with specific knowledge of Science, Biology, laboratory equipment, chemical preparation and disposal procedures.
