Internship Teaching Position

Starting January 2025

St Teresa’s invites young, enthusiastic, hardworking students who are currently studying education part-time, through a recognised tertiary institution, to apply for a one-year internship position in the Senior Primary School.

This will be a Senior Primary School Teaching Internship position for 2025, with the possibility of extension for 2026, in which the intern will be required to engage in the daily life of the school.  She/he will need to be committed to a full school day, which will include observation, preparation and presentation of lessons, break duties and involvement in the school co-curricular programme.  In addition, the intern will need to complete all university assignments and course work throughout the year.

Own transportation is essential.

Experienced subject specialist teachers will mentor the intern.

Requirements:

  • Provincial SACE registration.
  • Currently enrolled at a tertiary institution as a 2nd or 3rd year student studying towards a BED or a Postgraduate student studying towards a PGCE.
  • Studying towards a recognised teaching qualification, majoring in Intermediate Phase teaching.
  • Provide proof of year-end examination results and full academic transcript.
  • Be an aspiring candidate who will continue with their studies while serving as an intern in the classroom.
  • Be willing to take guidance and instruction from teachers.
  • Must be a South African citizen.

Responsibilities:

  • Classroom assistance, observation, preparation and presentation of lessons.
  • General academic duties including assisting with marking and invigilation.
  • General duties and involvement in the school co-curricular programme.
  • Active and innovative member of the teaching body.

The ideal candidate should be organised, enthusiastic and suited to teaching in a girls’ Catholic school with the ability to identify and contribute to the values and ethos of the school.
