Dainfern College is an independent English-medium, co-educational school situated on Broadacres Drive, Dainfern, north of Fourways in Johannesburg. The College caters for Grades 0-12 and offers IEB Matric as the Grade 12 exit exam. Our ethos is Christian and is based on the core concept of respect. We seek to develop skills for life required to unlock unique personal potential and to nurture creative thinkers with the confidence to become leaders through the provision of an innovative, relevant, and quality education. Responsibilities of the Board of Governors

The College is a not-for-profit company, headed up by a Board of Governors. As the highest leadership body of the College and to satisfy its fiduciary duties, the Board is responsible for:

  • determining the mission of the College and understanding its collective purpose.
  • selecting, supporting, and evaluating the performance of the College Executive.
  • strategic planning.
  • ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management.
  • resource and capital development.
  • approving and monitoring the College’s educational programme.
  • enhancing the College’s public image.
  • assessing its own performance as the governing body of the
  • ensuring legal and ethical integrity.

Independent Educationalist vacancy on the Board have arisen and Dainfern College is therefore looking for suitably qualified and experienced member.

Responsibilities of individual Board members

The College strives to support and promote excellent governance through the Board of Governors. In addition to technical expertise in the applicable portfolio, Board members should also bring intellectual, analytical and interpersonal skills. The College requires Board members to strive to maintain an effective balance of power, expertise, diversity and stakeholder representation.

Successful candidates will play a vital role in advancing the College’s mission and collective purpose. We are seeking individuals with experience in advocating for strategy growth, social causes, policy enhancement, overseeing College performance/compliance, and community impact.

Prospective Board members will be expected to fulfil the following:

  • Know and understand the College’s mission, values, policies, programmes, needs and opportunities.
  • Actively promote the College, serving as advocates and ambassadors.
  • Always act in the best interests of the College and never for any sectoral or personal interest.
  • Exercise emotional intelligence, care and skill in a professional manner.
  • Prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in Board meetings.
  • Participate fully in designated subcommittees, as applicable.
  • Contribute to the development of the strategic plan, financial management and capital development.
  • Provide guidance and support to the College Executive Committee.
  • Support the College and demonstrate this support within the community.
  • Maintain respectful and effective relationships with all College stakeholders.
  • Devote time to properly carry out their duties and responsibilities to the College.
  • Exercise the utmost good faith, honesty and integrity in all their dealings to guard against conflicts of duty and of interest.
  • Uphold legal duties and laws regarding the governance of the College, both as a school and as a not-for-profit company.
  • Maintain confidentiality about Board of Governors’ deliberations and internal matters of the College.

Requirements:

  • Not be a current parent or Alumni of the College.
  • Suitable qualification in the relevant portfolio.
  • A minimum of 20 years’ experience in Senior Management Academic role.
  • Experience at board level and Independent Non-Profit Schools will be advantageous.
  • Candidates will be expected to undergo criminal and credit checks.
