GIRLS’ PREPARATORY

Our primary intention is to educate and empower girls, raising them in ways that are responsive to the challenges unique to women. We aim to be the leaders in girls’ education, with the focus on nurturing individual skills and dispositions, equipping girls to engage confidently and with a sense of purpose. Our girls work within a values-based framework in order to make decisions with good intent. The South African context is diverse and dynamic. We raise girls to embrace their heritage and collaborate locally to make a significant contribution nationally and internationally.

HOD: Music

The Girls’ Preparatory School invites applications for the above-mentioned full-time leadership position which will be available from 1 January 2025. Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced individuals who believe they have the required skills, disposition, and competencies to take on this exciting and creative position.

The requirements for this position are:

  • Relevant music qualification from a recognised institution
  • Previous experience in an IEB school is preferred
  • Additional qualification in education is preferred
  • Proficient in playing a musical instrument
  • Experience in class music teaching from Grade 3-7
  • Experience in organising and leading musical events, performances and festivals
  • Ability to lead the choir / and or orchestra
  • Attend all music department executive and campus related meetings
  • Management of part-time music staff, with strong administrative skills (operational and organisational)
  • A fundamentally future-oriented approach to teaching and learning, adopting latest pedagogies and technologies in sound production (familiarity with Apple-based technologies and apps would be advantageous)
  • The ability to differentiate, innovate and moderate curriculum to complement our innovative and inclusive approach to education

Other qualities of the successful candidate include:

  • The ability to work independently and in collaboration with a variety of teams
  • Excellent analytical, communication, intrapersonal and administrative skills
  • A willingness to research and share latest trends in music and class music programmes
  • Proof of registration with SACE and a sexual offender’s clearance certificate
  • An awareness of the nature of the school and willingness to commit to its all-round ethos, co-curricular activities and pastoral approach
  • A willingness to work within the Methodist Church based ethos of the College
