SAHETI School is an independent, co-educational, English-medium school dedicated to the pursuit of excellence, whilst promoting the values and ethos of Hellenism. The school is situated in Bedfordview, Johannesburg.

Applications are invited for a dynamic, energetic, and experienced Head of Department Foundation Phase, who meets the below listed prerequisites.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A minimum requirement of a Professional Degree in Education and/or a four (4) year professional teaching qualification;
  • Teaching experience within the ISASA School System is essential;
  • Forward thinking teacher who nurtures robust academic standards will be an advantage;
  • Current Registration with SACE and clearance certificates;
  • Computer literacy and ability to integrate IT suitably in teaching/learning, however, special interest and further experience in this area will be advantageous;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • A commitment to full participation in the extra-mural activities of the school;
  • Must have the ability to identify with the values and ethos of the school.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The duties and Responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to:

Academic Leadership

  • Encouraging the pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning
  • Seeking new opportunities for enhancing the standing of the Department;
  • Promoting collaboration with other Departments or Schools;
  • Developing a culture of evaluation and benchmarking and striving for continuous improvement;
  • Maintaining personal academic standing;
  • Representing the interests and needs of the Department to the School and the external community;
  • Promoting discipline;
  • The pursuit of excellence and innovation in teaching and learning responsiveness.

Department Governance

  • The establishment and maintenance of a suitable Departmental organisational structure;
  • The development and maintenance of the strategic and academic planning functions of the Department/Phase including the setting of goals and the initiation and revision of curriculum offerings, including assessment and delivery;
  • Implementation of quality assurance processes particularly in relation to teaching, assessment and delivery, and the supervision of students;
  • Allocation of duties to staff to ensure the effective and efficient performance of the phase’s teaching and service functions;
  • Generating and implementing School policies/guidelines/SOPs within the Department/Phase and;
  • Implementation of IEB policies and mandatory circulars;
  • Mentoring the implementation of the Structured Reading Programme in the Phase;
  • Implementing, and monitoring personalized and inclusive learning approaches and teaching methodologies;
  • Facilitating learning experiences/activities through structure and unstructured play;
  • Developing and implementing Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Programs/Projects throughout the Phase.

Staff Guidance and Management for Performance

  • Fostering the development of staff (including induction of new staff and appropriate career development and guidance support for staff on probation) within the Department/phase;
  • Ensuring the management of personnel issues within the Department/phase including involvement in the recruitment and selection of staff, annual staff performance assessment, and other relevant staff performance management issues and staff grievances;
  • Ensuring ethical conduct in and by the Department/phase, including ethical use of communications networks;
  • Ensuring the participation of staff in appropriate events and extramural activities.

Financial and Infrastructure Management

  • The financial management of the Department/Phase, including establishment of budgets and planning for teaching aids, resources, conferences and meetings, and monitoring of expenditure against allocations;
  • Management and maintenance of Departmental space and infrastructure resources;
  • Ensuring compliance with School policy and regulations and School financial management and reporting requirements.

Other:

  • Notable support of, and participation in official school functions and appropriate after-school activities.
