High School Physical Sciences Teacher

St Martin’s is an Anglican school in the South of Johannesburg. It has an illustrious history as a truly Christian, South African school with luminaries like Oliver Tambo, Hugh Masekela and Trevor Huddlestone having been involved here. It is an exciting educational space, challenging young people to become future leaders, to reach for their dreams and to change their world.

We are seeking to employ a Physical Sciences teacher at St Martin’s High School.

The successful applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • A relevant Bachelor’s degree.
  • Proof of registration with SACE.
  • Proven experience in teaching Physical Sciences from Grade 8 -12.
  • Experience in the IEB would be a benefit.
  • Demonstrate effective time management and show the ability to handle pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of assessment, planning, reports, and communication with parents.

The above are necessary hygiene factors, but what would really set you apart, is a love for doing practical laboratory work with pupils and getting them excited about discovering the magical universe that God has created through the medium of Physical Science. Where, for example, does salt disappear to, when you put it into water and stir it up? Sure, it has dissolved – we know that – but where has it actually gone? So simple and .we so often just take it gor granted. Yet, it’s actually magic! What a joy it is to teach this amazing subject called Physical Science.

This is an exciting position with stimulating and varied challenges. We are looking for someone who exudes an optimistic energy and a ‘can-do’ attitude, who loves what they do, and who is flexible in terms working hours, on occasion, to get the job done.

The Headmaster seeks to appoint a suitable candidate effective from 1 January 2023.

Please send a detailed CV, the contact details of two referees and a letter of motivation to vacancies@stmartin.co.za by Friday, 30 September 2022.

An application will not in itself entitle the applicant to an interview and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview. We reserve the right not to fill this position.
