Founded in 1896 and set in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, Michaelhouse is a leading Anglican Independent senior Boarding School for boys from Grade 8 to Grade 12

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Leadership: Inspire and lead the sports team, including Masters in Charge (MiCs) and coaches.
- Drive Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for growth and collaborate with MiCs and senior coaches to implement effective solutions.
- Strategic Planning: Develop and execute strategic goals for sports in collaboration with the Deputy
- Rector (Pupils), MiCs, and Exco, ensuring alignment with the school’s vision.
- Policy & Development: Establish and implement sports policies while creating programmes that foster sporting excellence.
- Management:
- Oversee budgets, fixtures, facilities, and sports events.
- Chair sports committees and disciplinary hearings as required.
- Manage general school operations in line with school policy and ethos.
- Sporting Schedule Management: Manage the sporting calendar, including pre-season planning and
- resolving scheduling conflicts for boys and staff.
- Participation & Motivation:
- Inspire boys to engage in the sports programme.
- Address non-participation and ensure accountability.
- Scholarships & Awards: Manage sports scholarship assessments and awards.
- Reporting: Collate and submit reports to the Rector, the Board and for school publications. Maintain accurate records of sports results, awards, and report entries.
- Staff Coordination & Development: Represent Sport on the Recruitment interviewing panel. Oversee coaching development programmes and ensure balanced staff involvement in coaching.
- Facilities & Events: Coordinate with stakeholders to maintain facilities and plan event participation.
- Collaboration with Key Stakeholders: Work closely with the Head of Strength and Conditioning and the Head of Sports Medicine to ensure the holistic well-being and performance of students.
FULL INVOLVEMENT IN ALL ASPECTS OF SCHOOL LIFE IS EXPECTED, INCLUDING:
- Academic teaching
- Pastoral care
- Involvement in Clubs and Societies as well as Outdoor Education programmes
REQUIREMENTS: QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- A degree or relevant tertiary qualification.
- A minimum of 15 years relevant experience.
- Prior experience as a Director or Head of Sport would be an advantage.
- Leadership experience and a teaching qualification . Would be an advantage.
- Experience in a school environment, including teaching. Would be an advantage.
- A commanding presence that inspires confidence and respect among boys, parents, and staff.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Financial and administrative expertise.
- Proven team leadership abilities.
- A passion for sport and experience in coaching at the youth or elite level.
- Alignment with the Christian values and ethos of the school.
- Police clearance certificate and clearance on the Sexual Offenders Register.
ACCOMMODATION:
- Housing will be provided on or near the Michaelhouse estate to facilitate full involvement in the school programme.
