Head of Science Department & Biology Teacher (Cambridge curriculum)

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Science to lead our Science department, including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Lab Technician. This is a science leadership position responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, curriculum development, and teaching standards across all science disciplines. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Science department, ensuring high-quality teaching across Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
- Oversee curriculum development, aligning it with Cambridge International standards to foster inquiry-based learning.
- Teach Biology to Years 7–13, delivering engaging lessons and supporting top academic outcomes.
- Provide leadership and direction for the Science Department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
- Develop and implement innovative teaching strategies to engage students in scientific exploration.
- Monitor and enhance teaching and learning practices, mentoring staff to ensure professional growth.
- Develop effective assessment strategies to track student progress and drive high performance.
- Collaborate with the Lab Technician to ensure well-equipped labs and safe practical learning.
- Promote STEM initiatives, encouraging student involvement in science competitions and camps.
- Foster interdisciplinary learning by working closely with other departments.
- Liaise with school leadership, parents and external stakeholders to enhance the department’s performance.
- Contribute to school-wide leadership, supporting the academic vision of the International School of Cape Town.
Requirements:
- A degree in Biology or Physical Science, plus a recognised teaching qualification.
- SACE registered.
- Experience teaching IGCSE, AS & A Level equivalent, with a track record of strong results.
- Proven leadership skills in managing Science departments or teams.
- Strong strategic vision for Science education and department development.
- A passion for inquiry-based learning, STEM education, and student success.
- Experience working in high-achieving academic or international settings.
- Strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
