HEAD OF HOCKEY

Christian Brothers’ College Boksburg is a Premier Independent Boys’ School on the East Rand of Johannesburg and is seeking an individual with energy, a strong work ethic, integrity and vision in the position of Head of Hockey of the College. The Head of Hockey will report to the Director of Sport.

  • The Head of Hockey will lead and manage the hockey programme for Christian Brothers’ College Boksburg as a whole. The position requires the successful candidate to innovate, develop, partner and manage the College’s hockey precinct.
  • He/she will develop strategies, plans, policies and programmes to ensure an integrated long-term hockey development plan to meet the College’s expansion needs. This would need to include a school and age-appropriate hockey development plan.
  • The ideal candidate will be responsible to drive, benchmark and monitor the College hockey programme through strategic direction to ensure that the College develops into one of the leading hockey schools in the country.
  • The ideal candidate will be responsible for player and coach development with a focus on the improvement of the technical, tactical and mental abilities of players and coaches. The role will involve stakeholder management, partnerships, and engagement including parents and sponsors.
  • The successful candidate will be required to ensure that Christian Brothers’ College is on the cutting edge internationally and nationally in terms of hockey best practice. The candidate needs to set the trend in the hockey space while being accountable for the overall success and strategy of the Christian Brothers’ College long-term hockey development plan.
  • The ideal candidate may be expected to teach in the High School.

Requirements

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Relevant qualifications and proven experience in leading and developing hockey programmes (recreational, competitive and high performance);
  • Have a teaching qualification at GETC and FET level and be registered with SACE;
  • A level 3 coaching certificate will be an advantage;
  • Previous proven experience coaching hockey at a provincial or national level;
  • Proof of a hockey coaching system, style of play and a long term development plan;
  • Exceptional planning and organisational skills, with attention to detail;
  • Ability to problem solve, innovate and work collaboratively;
  • Strong and proven relationships with schools, universities, provincial and national federations;
  • Strong and proven experience in strategic recruitment of students;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders;
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook and budget management;
  • Excellent command of English (verbal and written communication);
  • Resilient and able to use initiative, prioritise, multi-task and be able to work under pressure;
  • Ability to adapt to and cope with change;
  • A strong appreciation of the importance of the College’s values and culture, and a willingness to work within the Catholic ethos of the College
