Overall Purpose of the Job

To lead and deliver on the academic aspects of the School, acts as an advocate for the School’s academic programs, and presents a positive image of the programmes and the School to both internal and external stakeholders. The role of the Principal is to provide administrative support to the School’s academic department, ensuring that high standards of quality and service are maintained. This role requires close liaison with the Executive Head and Head of Academics.

Managing of Academics progress in the High school

  • Manage all the academic progress on the High School
  • Work with Head of Academics to provide academic analysis reports to management on regular basis to address all the academic gaps in the school. By doing so, you shall ensure all the identified issues are addressed.
  • Provide strategies that can assist the High school in achieving its academic goals.
  • Ensure that all teaching provided in classrooms are in line with stipulated academic syllabus as recommended.
  • Ensure strict discipline and control in your school and also around GIS in general. This forms part of shared responsibility.
  • As well as maintaining discipline you must ensure learners are given appropriate guidance and care that they may require
  • You must work hard to ensure your school and GIS achieves the best possible results.
  • You must not be engaged in any business, trade or occupation of any kind without the knowledge and permission of the Executive Head.
  • All lessons preparation, subject/personal files and marking of children’s books must always be kept up to date
  • The classroom should be a place where learners feel safe to learn and express themselves

Administration Operations

  • Ensure registrations of exams is done timely in the High School for IGCSE or other exams or required registrations
  • Liaise with Finance Department to ensure students writing exams have settled school fees and registration fees.
  • Ensure the school has exam timetables for all external exams. Liaise with Head of Academics to assist in the exam operations.
  • Monitor classes at all times and work with Phase Coordinators to ensure operational smooth running
  • Advise management on registration issues.
  • Ensure all the internal assessments written are support of school academic goals and are measurable.
  • Ensure all student files are updated with admissions office and support needed by other offices.
  • Assist Finance and admissions office with withdrawals and student tracking.
  • You must follow any reasonable instruction given to you by the Executive Head and Head office.
  • Keep a register of pupil’s attendance daily
  • You must be punctual at all times to perform your supervision duties at specific assigned areas before, during breaks and after school.
  • Official working hours are from 07h00- 16h00 Mondays to Fridays. Lateness at the start of the working day will not be tolerated as punctuality is key to self-discipline, one of the core values of our school. You should report for duty earlier than the start time daily to ensure supervision of attendance in High School.
  • You must ensure your classes are running effectively and efficiently and to the standard that is required.
  • You must Provide invigilation training to staff members
  • Ensure correct staffing in your school.

Customer Relationship

  • Assists with monitoring the student academic patterns,  assessments, meeting with students/ teachers and parents, as required, to identify issues and resolve problems timeously
  • Keeps parents and students informed re: academic analysis, repeaters issues, academic strategies, marks, etc.
  • Engages in word of mouth marketing for the school and providing relevant statistics needed for PR or Marketing purpose.
  • Assists with planning and hosting events. e.g. subject-related workshops, sports days ,cultural activities, open days, expos, special/theme days, concerts etc.
  • Convenes Awards ceremonies and/or valedictions, as required and evaluates their success making recommendations for improvement
  • Organises student led conferences and monitors their outcome.
  • Participate in all the PR and marketing activities required for your school’s growth.

Human Resource Operations

  • Assists with leading and motivating staff to achieve agreed objectives and foster growth, their own as well as the students
  • Conducts staff, grade and subject meetings in accordance with agreed time intervals. Meets regularly with other phases/ schools to ensure consistency
  • Assist the Executive Principal with the mentoring of the staff and encourages their professional development
  • Arranges and presents regular staff training sessions
  • Convenes management meetings providing advice and guidance as appropriate and reporting back to Executive Principal.
  • Ensure cognitive support is provided regularly to staff and learners and work with all the school support bodies.
  • Work with all the departmental HOD, Deputies to ensure staff development activities

Health and Safety

  • Ensure OHS for in the school, liaising with management as necessary and monitoring compliance
  • Assists with the management and maintenance of facilities by reporting breakages and maintenance needs timeously.
  • Selects and sets up of venues for classes and examinations
  • Monitors the school environment and identify any health and safety hazards
  • Ensure compliance with all OHS policies.

Education

  • Higher Diploma / Bachelors Degree in the Education
  • Masters in Education will be an added advantage
  • Registered with a recognized examination body in Botswana (Advantageous)
