Clifton Nottingham Road invites applications for a Head of Expressive Arts teacher.

Clifton Preparatory School is an independent co-educational school offering schooling from Grade 000 to Grade 7,
with boarders from Grade 1 to Grade 7. Founded in 1942, Clifton is set on a 64-hectare estate in the KZN Midlands.

We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, and passionate Head of Expressive Arts teacher to lead and shape our vibrant Art, Drama, and Music programmes. The successful candidate will oversee the strategic direction and daily operations of the Expressive Arts department and be an active teacher in either Art, Music, or Drama. This role is a unique opportunity for a creative leader to inspire children and colleagues, foster a love for the arts, and ensure that the Expressive Arts remain a cornerstone of the Clifton experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Coordination: Lead and manage the Expressive Arts department, ensuring a cohesive curriculum across Art, Drama, and Music.
  • Teaching: Deliver high-quality instruction in either Art, Drama, or Music, fostering creativity in children.
  • Programme Development: Design and implement a diverse and engaging Expressive Arts programme, overseeing school productions, exhibitions, and performances.
  • Community Engagement: Promote the Expressive Arts programme by building strong relationships with parents, local schools, and the broader community.
  • Administration & Budget Management: Manage the department’s budget, resources, and scheduling to support the school’s goals.
  • Staff Development: Mentor and support Art, Drama, and Music teachers, facilitating professional growth and collaboration.

Requirements:

  • A relevant degree and SACE registration.
  • A minimum of two years experience in teaching and leading Expressive Arts programmes, with a proven track record of success.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current educational practices with the ability to integrate technology into teaching.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire children and staff.
  • A passion for the arts and a commitment to fostering a love of creativity in young learners.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Willingness to contribute to the school’s extra-mural activities.
