Job Description

Job Title: Head of Department- Music

Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to lead our music department as the Head of Music. This position will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the music program, including curriculum development, teacher management, budgeting, and performance planning.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive, school aligned, music curriculum that meets the needs of all students
  • Recruit, hire, and train music teachers and staff
  • Collaborate with other department heads and faculty members to integrate music into cross-curricular activities
  • Coordinate and oversee all music performances and events, including concerts, eisteddfods, recitals, competitions and awards ceremonies
  • Manage the music department budget, including expenses for instruments, sheet music, and other supplies
  • Implement and uphold school policies
  • Evaluate the performance of music teachers and staff members on a regular basis
  • Actively promote the music department to the broader community
  • Piano accompaniment at assemblies and all school functions
  • Working knowledge of Orff percussion and solfege
  • Knowledge of teaching marimbas
  • Must be able to teach extra-curricular activities, which include coordinating Eisteddfod, performances at other schools and organizing a school concert
  • Stay up-to-date on current trends and best practices in music educationQualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field (Master’s degree preferred)
  • At least 5 years of experience as a music teacher or department head
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents
  • Proficiency in music theory, history, and performance
  • Experience with budget management and program development
  • SACE registered
  • Police Clearance Certificate will be required
