HEAD OF DEPARTMENT (AFRIKAANS): SENIOR SCHOOL (Grade 10 – Grade 12)

Redhill School is seeking an exceptional and visionary educator to join our team as the Head of Department: Afrikaans. Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Lead the Afrikaans department in shaping the future direction of language education at Redhill School, aligning with the school’s strategic aim to be recognised as leaders in innovative teaching and learning both nationally and globally. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and ensure research and reflection inform our educational strategy.
  • Innovative Curriculum Development: Drive the development of an innovative and future-focused Afrikaans curriculum that integrates fresh new ideas, embraces technology, and promotes a deep understanding and appreciation of the language among our students.
  • Excellence in Teaching and Learning: Champion excellence in teaching and learning by inspiring and mentoring a team of passionate Afrikaans educators. Encourage professional growth, collaboration, and the implementation of best practices that enhance student engagement, achievement, and language acquisition.
  • Collaborative Partnerships: Foster strong partnerships with parents, students, and stakeholders to ensure a holistic approach to language education and create opportunities for meaningful community engagement and involvement.
  • Professional Development: Stay updated with the latest trends and research in language teaching methodologies, attend conferences, participate in workshops, and encourage ongoing professional development within the department.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Afrikaans, or a related field (a Master’s Degree is desirable).
  • Proven experience and expertise in teaching Afrikaans at Grade 12 level, with a track record of excellence in language education.
  • Deep knowledge of innovative teaching methodologies, current trends in language acquisition, and curriculum development. • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate with the Head of the Middle School Afrikaans Department.
  • Passion for research, reflection, and a commitment to staying at the forefront of educational practices.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • A global mindset, with the ability to contribute to the wider education community and promote equitable access to quality education.
