Job Description
Overall Purpose of the Job
This is a professional leadership position. The incumbent will need to exercise influence and authority over schools and their teams to deliver on the academic strategy of the group and the brand. The brand being Gaborone International School with the three schools on campus, preschool, preparatory, and high school.
ACADEMIC STRATEGY
- Leading review and development of the Gaborone International school academic strategy in consultation with Central Academic Team and brand management.
- Working with the Executive Head and Heads of School to align Gaborone International School value proposition with the academic strategy.
- Communicating and monitoring performance goals against the strategy.
- Definition and development of the tactics, goals, and processes to achieve the strategy
- Oversight of Gaborone International School implementation against strategy.
- Development and oversight of professional development and associated activities to improve Gaborone International School performance
BENCHMARKING AND IMPROVEMENT OF ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE
- Set measurable targets for each subject(s) and departments and work with the Executive head and Heads of school in ensuring support is in place to achieve set goals.
- Monitoring the implementation of the improvement strategies at school level.
- Driving data literacy in the school by communication of findings and collaborative agreement with the Executive Head and Head of schools of improvement strategies.
TEACHING AND LEARNING
- Working with the central team to develop school competency for the implementation of progressive teaching and learning methodologies and technology.
- Oversight and leadership of implementation and impact monitoring of agreed strategies.
- Oversight of implementation of the framework for the use of ICT in teaching and learning.
- Oversight of implementation of appropriate technologies to support learning and teaching at Gaborone International school.
- Drive strategic differentiation.
- Develop and implement programmes/ competitions and other differentiation in the academic space in collaboration with CAT
- Ensure teacher development measured against key performance areas set out in Luminosity.
CURRICULUM ALIGNMENT, PROGRESSION AND MONITORING
- Ensure campus implementation of the appropriate differentiation and standardization projects that will enable common assessments and bench marking including but not limited to timetable efficiencies and models.
- Ensure implementation of scope and sequence in all subjects and grades. All subject policies to be relevant and updated, together with all general policies.
- Identify and support projects to share best practices and learning material identification and acquisitions
- Monitor curriculum progression and completion to ensure set goals are reached.
SCHOOL EFFECTIVENESS AND EFFICIENCIES
- Collaborate work with the Executive head and Heads of school to ensure effective and efficient staffing with adequate resources measured against group standards.
- Ensure campus comply with all Cambridge and Botswana Curriculum standards and procedures.
- Identify and promote implementation of common resources between Gaborone International School and other schools within the ADvTECH group.
- Ensure Gaborone International school is represented on all matters related to academics on the student information system (STASY) Coordinate input and manage compliance.
- Drive and support timetabling efficiencies across campus.
SCHOOL LEADERSHIP AND INNOVATION
- Evaluate trends and products to identify potential implementation and work with CAT to adopt where possible and appropriate.
- Monitor and evaluate impact and effectiveness of products implemented by the campus.
- Protect alignment with strategy and focus on cost and impact.
- Ensure staff development in innovation and implementation.
STRATEGIC DIFFERENTIATION
- Ensure campus differentiation with compliance in terms of global competencies, Inquiry bases learning and RDI
- Drive implementation of technology-enabled learning.
- Ensure compliance with the requirements for academic work across the campus. Known, understood and engage with the relevant bodies to ensure compliance.
- Be the campus spokesperson when it involves academic matters. ( PR )
DATA DRIVEN DECISION MAKING
- Ensure campus compliance with common assessments as standardised assessments across schools ( MAP ) and then support school use of data.
- Use benchmark testing data to compare and develop performance and align performance goals and strategies.
- Drive deliberate use of data to embed goal orientated approaches using KITSO/ MAP/Cambridge and PSLE results.
- Contribute to central development of tools for data driven approaches.
- Analyse academic data to improve areas of underperforming, teachers, and subjects
RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS
- Keep abreast of educational trends and assess for impact and implementation
- Contribute to group research by conducting analysis of key areas of academic performance through data collection and analysis.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
- Implement a quality assurance framework to compliment performance measures.
- Establish a quality assurance and growth orientated mindset on the campus to support the aims of quality assurance.
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT
- Motivate and support all academic staff
- Assist management in with senior appointments.
- Support transformation objectives/ minimum qualification objectives
- Give regular feedback to the campus / CAT and Brand management
STAKEHOLDER RELATIONSHIPS MANAGEMENT AND PUBLIC RELATIONS
- Partner with brand leadership to quality assure differentiation as well as divisional compliance
- Strategic manage relationships with the principals, MD, HSDP and teachers
- Represent the campus in academic matters with CAT
- Ensure and enable clear communication that include regular feedback and information sharing.
- Drive adoption of the Academic Hub and other centralized information systems and services
- Report to management committees and provide campus input to central reporting
- Contribute to campus marketing and communication strategies
Education
- Higher Diploma / bachelor’s degree in the Education
- Ideal
Master’s in education will be an added advantage - Registered with a recognised examination body in Botswana
