Grade 4 and Intermediate Phase teacher

Orion College is an English medium Remedial School in Randpark Ridge that caters to learners with diverse learning needs, neurodiversities and mixed abilities. The school offers three educational streams and therapeutic interventions from a multidisciplinary team. Orion is looking to employ a highly skilled, experienced and enthusiastic Intermediate Phase teacher to join our team as Grade 4 subject and class teacher. This person will have relevant knowledge and experience working with remedial learners and learners with a range of barriers to learning and be skilled in teaching in the Intermediate Phase CAPS curriculum.

This fixed post is available from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2025

Minimum Requirements:

  • Relevant Teaching Degree from a recognised institution
  • Registration with SACE and current Police Clearance
  • Experience teaching in the Intermediate Phase.

Competencies/Skills:

  • Remedial teaching qualification or relevant experience working in a remedial environment.
  • Understanding of GDE ATPs and CAPS curriculum
  • Excellent English, Afrikaans and Maths teaching skills (at Intermediate Phase level)
  • High standard of English – speaking and writing
  • Experience in differentiation and curriculum adaptation
  • Identification of learning barriers and offering personalised support to learners
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Passion for remedial teaching. Able to use own initiative and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to deliver a high standard of remedial teaching.
  • Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who is able to work under pressure.
  • Computer literate

Duties:

  • Class teacher to a Grade 4 class.
  • Teaching Intermediate Phase subjects, including Maths, English, Afrikaans, NST, LO and Social Sciences.
  • Assessment and tracking of learner performance, identifying the need for intervention and support.
  • Attendance and contribution to multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Liaison with parents, therapists and teachers.
  • Participation in extra-curricular activities and any other relevant duties required by the school.
