THE RIDGE IS A LEADING INDEPENDENT BOYS’ PREPARATORY SCHOOL IN JOHANNESBURG

We have two vacancies for:

Grade 2 and Grade 3 Locum Teachers

PERIOD: September 2025 to December 2025

The Ridge School is looking to appoint two outstanding Foundation Phase (Grade 2 and Grade 3) class teachers who are passionate about teaching young boys, using innovation and a boy-centred approach and who will show a commitment to our School’s growing vision and ethos.

If you have a vested interest in boys’ education and have a track record of guiding and mentoring young men to reach their potential, we want to hear from you. Excellent pastoral care and positive engagement with parents are also vital for these locum roles.

Responsibilities:

  • Candidates must be committed to a very high standard of teaching and learning.
  • Be experienced in differentiated teaching to best accommodate a variety of learning needs and styles within the classroom.
  • Be prepared to use innovative approaches to deliver age-appropriate lessons that are stimulating, and boy-centred.
  • Be prepared to take responsibility for the academic and pastoral development of their class, using appropriate interventions where required.
  • Must demonstrate a genuine commitment to the school’s extra-mural programme.
  • Show excellent administrative skills when planning and reporting.
  • Commitment to working as part of a dynamic team.
  • Ability to work alongside parents in the best interest of the boys in the class.

Experience required:

  • 3 + years’ experience in teaching Foundation Phase.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).
  • SACE Registered.

Reporting:

  • Reports to the Head of Grade.

Competencies required:

  • A candidate’s warmth, thoughtfulness and depth will be carefully considered as part of our decision.
  • Creating a nurturing classroom environment.
  • Understanding child development.
