Established in 1879, St Mary’s Diocesan School for Girls is an independent Anglican School situated in Hillcrest, Pretoria. St Mary’s Diocesan School for Girls in Pretoria is inviting applications for the following position available from January 2025:

Grade 00 Assistant Teacher

St Mary’s DSG strives to create a pathway empowering confident young women of integrity and character to explore their potential and to contribute positively to our nation and the world. St Mary’s DSG invites suitably experienced candidates, who meet the criteria, to apply to fill this post in the Junior School.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support and assist the teacher(s) in the classroom to provide a positive, child-centred learning environment that allows students to maximise their potential in all spheres of development.
  • Expected to take his/her lead and instructions from the teacher(s) and is encouraged to use his/her own initiative to respond to situations in a sensible manner, always acting in the best interest of the students.
  • Contribute to building a supportive and caring environment in which all staff, students and parents thrive.
  • Incorporate the St Mary’s DSG values into day-to-day duties.
  • Contribute to the wider life at the School, through involvement in the extracurricular and pastoral care programmes.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Have a minimum of Matric and preferably have a tertiary qualification in education or studying towards one
  • MS Office experience
  • Have proof of clearance against the Sexual Offenders and Child Protection Registry – this is required for any staff member working in a school environment
  • Provisional SACE registration an advantage

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in the English language.
  • Ability to work independently and a willingness to contribute to a dynamic team.
