Functions and Central Kitchen Chef
Cornwall Hill College is a co-educational, independent school situated in Irene on some 25 ha of idyllic,country-like surroundings. We pride ourselves on providing a safe environment and welcoming atmosphere. We are looking for a professional Chef with a friendly attitude, and the ability to multitask, to serve in our School’s function and Central Kitchen.
THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL:
- Collaborate with the functions and central kitchen manager on menu items
- Prepare the kitchen before meal times
- Perform routine kitchen tasks.
- Follow the prep list created to plan duties & menus
- Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible.
- Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking.
- Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat, and preparing meals. Standard operating procedures
- Set up workstations and ingredients so food can be prepared according to recipes.
- Undertake basic cooking duties, such as reducing sauces and parboiling food.
- Prepare simple dishes, such as salads and light meals
- Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces,
- Ensure that all food and other items are stored properly.
- Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines.
- Perform other kitchen duties as assigned.
- Prepare menu items as ordered
- Assist the School’s functions department with large projects when requested- Compulsory
- Assist the preparation of aftercare meals
- Maintain a clean kitchen at all time and work in a safe and efficient manner
- Ensure effective management of all kitchen stock and equipment
THE FOLLOWING QUALITIES AND ABILITIES ARE ESSENTIAL:
- 3+ years in a kitchen environment
- Understanding of different culinary profiles and techniques
- Willingness to work some evenings and weekends when required
- Multitasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks
- Excellent command of the English language – spoken and written.
