Position Overview:

The Ubuntu School is looking for an energetic, creative, and innovative full-time Foundation phase teacher. This person needs to have a deep understanding and commitment to progressive education and be able to dive into a new curriculum that they may be unfamiliar with.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Responsibility for all duties required of an academic educator
  • Commitment to subject-related activities;
  • Leading a classroom (by example of conduct and by instructing learners through excellent teaching)
  • Incorporating the school’s values into daily teaching
  • Total commitment to extra-mural activities of the school

Required Qualifications:

  • Recognized degree and/or a 4-year professional Teaching Qualification.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ teaching experience in the same and/or similar type of position and environment.
  • Strong commitment to the mission, vision, goals and objectives of Ubuntu Pathways and the Ubuntu School
  • Commitment to providing excellent, innovative education using a progressive curriculum and with limited use of technical aides
  • Excellent English communication skills
  • A sound and progressive understanding of the South African curriculum and international trends in education
  • Ability to foster and sustain positive relationships with all stakeholders
  • Ability to teach across the Foundation Phase
  • Ability to demonstrate successful track record with learners
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with colleagues, students and parents
  • Willingness to engage with learners and their families on a personal level to help children in the best way possible
  • Ability to be energetic, self-motivated and able to use own initiative
  • Good organizational, time management and administrative skills
  • An open and creative outlook to education
  • Ability to act as a team player
  • Willingness to commit to extra-curricular activities including sports and enrichment activities
  • Computer literacy—advanced technological skills and experience with integrating technology into teaching a major advantage
  • SACE registration
  • Clearance certificate in terms of the Sexual Offences Act

Salary:

Salary commensurate with skills and experience. Additional benefits such as medical aid, provident fund, funeral cover, life cover, additional annual leave days and study leave days are also offered.
