Situation in Umlazi, Canaan College is a new concept in Independent education, one which envisages a future characterized by courageous, honest, innovative and entrepreneurial leaders who are grounded in Christian values. The school currently enrols learners from Grade R to 9, and will grow to Grade 12 by 2022. Canaan College seeks an inspirational teacher to join a supportive, committed and innovative team with an ethos of professional development.

FACILITIES MANAGER

To commence duty in January 2020.

Working closely with the Executive Head, the preferred candidate must have the ability to be proactive, organised, work under pressure and a willing attitude.

Duties Include but not limited to:

  • Control and maintenance of facilities (including property maintenance, i.e. buildings, office furniture and equipment, grounds, fields, 24-hour security considerations, safety and security checks and procedures, signage, fire equipment, generator servicing, safety equipment, lighting, plants, cleaning services, etc.).
  • Supervision and Management of various staff and contractors including Cleaning, Security, Grounds etc.
  • Procurement of consumables.
  • Budget control
  • Management, Preparation and Routine Maintenance.
  • General Handyman Duties (ability to perform minor electrical, mechanical, plumbing or structural repairs him/herself)
  • Ensuring fields are correctly marked and equipment set up as per Sport Coordinator requirements.
  • Ensuring facilities are prepared for all requirements and events.
  • Overseeing building projects and renovations.
  • Ensure that building is intact and that deviations (lights, water, plumbing, aircons, etc.) are reported timeously.
  • Ensures that facility lock-up procedures are adhered to.
  • Management and maintenance of furniture and equipment requirements.
  • Preparing Monthly reporting to the Executive Head.
  • Stays available for call out in emergencies.
  • Responsible for adherence to the OSH Act and good housekeeping of the facilities at all times.
  • Identify potential risks and action such risks timeously
  • Source suitable suppliers (as and when required), assist in negotiating pricing and service delivery and the correct procedures are followed.

Previous experience in schools will be considered an advantage.
