Edinvest Schools currently operates four schools on two campuses, Canaan College in Umlazi, Durban (www.canaancollege.co.za) and Etham College in Hilton (www.etham.co.za).

These schools offer blended learning, enabling adaptability and flexibility in our ever-changing world. We emphasize the development of an entrepreneurial mindset grounded in understanding Emotional Intelligence (EQ). Robotics and Coding are woven into the curriculum.

Canaan College is in its fifth year of operations and is called the “jewel of Umlazi” by parents and the local community.

ROLE DETAILS

Role overview

This role is responsible to lead Canaan College. A dynamic, self-motivated, ethically driven and experienced school leader is required. If you seek to make a difference to education in South Africa and enjoy working in a dynamic team this is the place to be.

Key Result Areas

  • Overall responsibility for strategic leadership of the school’s growth and development.
  • Deliver quality education, including:
    • Deliver high literacy and numeracy standards.
    • Ensure quality delivery of the curriculum.
    • Lead the implementation of the schools’ Blended Learning Strategy.
    • Ensure the school inculcates the entrepreneurial mindset.
    • Keep abreast of educational innovations in SA and globally.
  • Deliver the school’s financial and operational objectives, including:
    • Manage and deliver the school budget.
    • Coordinate with the FD to ensure budget alignment and performance.
    • Deliver required learner occupancy and collections.
    • Deliver and retain a high standard of school facilities.
    • Enforce all OHS regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure good relationships with all stakeholders, including:
    • Establish and sustain effective, positive relationships with all staff, learners, parents/guardians and the local community.
    • Be an active role player in the marketing of the school.
    • Represent the school and Edinvest with high ethical standards.
  • Effective staff management, including:
    • Lead and manage academic and support staff in achieving the school’s academic and operational objectives.
    • Lead the Senior Management Team at the school.
    • Manage performance reviews for all staff.
    • Maintain high standards of professionalism.
    • Creating a high-performance culture.
    • Take an active role in staff development.
    • Support the development and maintenance of whole school policies & practices to ensure consistent application thereof.
  • Reporting:
    • The formal reporting line is to the COO.
    • Also accounts to the Director of Schools on education matters.
    • Coordinates with all relevant staff to ensure alignment of systems and development of best practice across the business.
    • Responsible for monthly, quarterly, six monthly and annual reports as required.
    • Participate in building the broader Edinvest Schools.

Requirements:

Skills, Qualifications and Experience required

  • An education-related Degree from a recognized tertiary institution, and preferably a PGCE.
  • 15+ years’ experience in Schools, with a minimum of 5 years at a senior management level within the independent school sector.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior school leadership position.
  • Computer literate.
  • Compliant with all regulatory requirements (e.g., SACE, clean record)
