Reddam House Durbanville offers the Cambridge International Lower Secondary curriculum in Grade 8 & 9. The College provides students from Grade 10 the opportunity to take one of two curricula: the very best in international education in the Cambridge International curriculum or the top South African Independent Examinations Board (IEB) schools’ curriculum.
We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified, enthusiastic, and dynamic English teacher to join a growing department. The successful applicant will be an excellent classroom practitioner, work well within a team and deliver the curriculum to a high level. The position will require teaching English Language and English Literature from Grade 7 to 12 in either the IEB or Cambridge curricula. Offering a subject specialism in English Language at Cambridge AS/A Level would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will be expected to adopt a holistic view of students in their care, promoting the general progress and well-being of individuals and of any class or group assigned to them. They will create a positive learning environment and motivate students to achieve to their full potential.
Plan prepare and present interesting and exciting English lessons.
Establish a teaching environment that is nurturing and which promotes engaged learning.
Behave in a professional manner with regard to punctuality, behaviour, standards of work and students’ homework.
Evaluate, reflect on and refine teaching practice.
Teach extra lessons, when required, on two afternoons per week.
Produce resources of a high standard for students.
Respond to emails and telephone messages from parents within 24 hours.
Show loyalty to all facets of Reddam House.
Attend all special occasions at the discretion of the relevant Head.
Set and mark exams and all other forms of student evaluation.
Write report comments.
The post holder is required to undertake any other reasonable tasks that the School Head/line manager determine.
Requirements of the role:
Teaching diploma or an undergraduate degree with a postgraduate teaching diploma
Several years’ teaching experience, preferably teaching the IEB and/or Cambridge syllabus.
A love and passion for the English language and literature.
Ability to connect effectively with children
A thorough understanding of the subject material that you will be teaching
Ability to be a role model
Ability to reflect on own practice
Good planning, organisational and reporting skills
Good communication skills (oral, written and presentation)
Good time management skills
Sound knowledge of ICT and how to use it effectively to aid in teaching and administration
Good interpersonal skills and strong team orientation
