St Catherine’s School is a co-educational Catholic day school situated in Parkhill Gardens, Germiston. The school was established in 1908 by the Newcastle Dominican Sisters and educates pupils from Grade 000 to Matric. The school is registered with UMALUSI, OISESA and the I.E.B. and is a member of both I.S.A.S.A. and the Catholic Schools’ Office. St Catherine’s is currently experiencing a period of expansion and aims to be a leading provider of quality education on the East Rand.

EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGIST (Grade 000 – Grade 12)
September 2024

We seek to appoint a dynamic graduate who holds a Master’s degree in the field of Educational Psychology. Experience in working at an independent school would be advantageous but is not a pre-requisite. As the primary function of the post is related to the efficient and optimal management of the psychological support programme for the whole school, flexibility and an ability to adapt to irregular working hours is critical.

Responsibilities include:

  • Overall management of the school’s psychological support programme
  • The vocational development of pupils
  • Assessment, diagnosis and intervention aimed at optimisation of pupil learning and development
  • Identification and remediation of barriers to learning and development
  • The facilitation of psycho-educational counselling, psychotherapy, career counselling, subject choice assessments and learning support
  • The generation and maintenance of confidential records and progress reports
  • Management of requisite test material
  • The ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with parents, colleagues and senior management
  • The ability to network with and refer matters to allied professionals
  • The ability to source and conduct various tests and assessments as required
  • Co-ordinate the School’s School-Based Support Team
  • Act as the Designated Child Safeguarding Officer

  • Close attention to detail
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • A strong drive for improvement
  • Enthusiasm and an ability to deal with uncertainty
  • The ability to build effective relationships and work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Experience in dealing with pupils between the ages of 5 and 19

General:

  • The successful candidate will retain a line relationship with the Head of School
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council and SACE is a pre-requisite
  • A Police Clearance Certificate must be submitted with the application
  • Certified copies of qualifications will be required from the successful applicant
