DIRECTOR OF SPORT

Christian Brothers’ College Boksburg is a Premier Independent Boys’ School on the East Rand of Johannesburg and is seeking an individual with energy, a strong work ethic, integrity and vision in the position of Director of Sport of the College.The Director of Sport will report directly to the Headmaster.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, motivational and have a genuine passion for sport. The ideal candidate should have a clear understanding of our vision for the future of boys’ sport at Christian Brothers’ College, Boksburg and a plan for how to deliver it. The ideal candidate will be expected to drive forward our whole-school priorities (most notably in relation to equity, inclusion, diversity, sustainability and affordability.) The ideal candidate will promote kindness, positive relationships, and wellbeing in all their actions.

The ideal candidate will have an outstanding organisational and people management skill set. It would also be beneficial for candidates to have experience of working in complex departments and dealing with recruitment, facilities and budget management. They should be flexible, resilient and outstanding team leaders. A key aspect of this role will be outstanding communication skills and an ability to interact well with learners, parents, staff, colleagues from peer schools and alumni. In this role, the ideal candidate will act as a role model and will provide a visible, inspiring and nurturing presence to all members of our community.

Key Responsibilities of the Job:

  • Lead the management and delivery of sport in the College, directly line managing a committed team of professionals leading each of our sports.
  • Take the lead in developing colleagues’ skills and aptitude as sports coaches by leading a culture of continuing professional development and providing training opportunities and courses to support the College’s sporting aims.
  • Design the sport curriculum ensuring clear learner outcomes/experience and curricular overview for staff to follow.
  • Oversee the smooth organisation of events both on and off site for inter-school fixtures
  • Oversee and effectively manage the sports programme, calendar, bookings, transport and budgeting for events and attend Heads of Sports meetings.
  • Work with the Financial Controller to maintain financial oversight and effective use of budgets
  • Maintain oversight of all logistics associated with College Sport, working closely with the Financial Controller and Estate Manager.
  • Retain oversight of learner opportunities in competitive sport, both inter and intra-school.
  • Support all colleagues working on the sport programme in the College to ensure a consistent and effective delivery of sport for all learners in the College.
  • Good planning, organisational and administrative skills, with attention to detail.
  • A working understanding of a Long-Term Sport Development Program.
  • Demonstrate ability to prioritise and work independently at all times.
  • Play a full role in the life of the school during the course of each term.
  • Ability to coordinate and coach a variety of sports.
  • Constructively engage with other members of the College Management Committee, within a collaborative working environment.

Requirements:

  • A suitable professional qualification and appropriate educational experience and be registered with SACE . A qualification in Sports Management / Sports Sciences would be an advantage.
  • 5 + years previous experience as Head of Sport
  • First Aid training would be required.
  • Be passionate about boys’ education.
  • An awareness of the nature of the College and willingness to commit to its Catholic ethos and appreciation of its traditions.
  • Excellent judgement in managing sensitive and complex situations and understands the value of clarity, care and flexibility when doing so.
  • Ability to foster and sustain positive relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Experience as a tactful negotiator, able to adjudicate in a dispute.
  • An understanding of budget management and financial planning.
  • A commitment to on-going personal and professional development.
