De La Salle Holy Cross College is a small South African school embracing diversity and providing a unique educational experience. Our College is located in Victory Park, Johannesburg and consists of a co-educational primary school and secondary school. We are an independent, non-profit institution serving the educational needs of the immediate and wider community of Johannesburg.

We require the services of a dynamic candidate to join our High School Faculty with effect from 01 January 2021.

Counsellor/ Psychologist

Requirements:

  • Suitable professional qualifications and appropriate educational experience.
  • Professional registration as a psychologist or registered counsellor with the HPCSA, which is current and compliant with CPD requirements.
  • Ability to provide counselling services and interventions to adolescents, parents, staff and others where applicable.
  • Development and delivery of individual, group and school-wide interventions to promote well-being and in particular psycho-social wellbeing.
  • Identification of support needs and containment of presenting difficulties.
  • Ongoing case management, referral and development of relevant professional networks and resources.
  • Compliance with the relevant legislative frameworks and Ethical conduct in line with HPCSA and other relevant regulations.
  • The ability to maintain strict confidentiality and appropriate boundaries in all matters related to the role.
  • Experience in providing workshops to adolescents, parents and staff.
  • Experience in working with adolescents and an understanding of issues affecting them.
  • The ability to prioritise, multi-task and work under pressure within a school environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organisational, administrative, interpersonal and emotional intelligence skills.
  • The ability to work effectively, independently and as part of a team within a broader system with multiple stakeholders.
  • Commitment and proactive approach to reflective practice as well as continuous professional development.
  • Ability to work systemically within the broader school context, as well as within a team of professionals.
  • Knowledge of Positive Psychology and commitment to practising predominantly from this paradigm.
  • Good knowledge of educational and whole school procedures, organisation, structures and systems, as well as barriers to learning, socio-emotional difficulties, psychopathology, relevant curriculum issues and differentiation; the education environment and current pressures faced by learners and their families.
  • Proof of registration with SACE (if applicable).
  • Clearance certificate with the Child Protection Act and Sexual Offences Register.
