We are currently seeking a suitably qualified and experienced person to fill a full-time position, as Careers Counsellor, commencing Term 3 2021 (Negotiable).
The Careers Counsellor at Redhill School will help students in planning and managing their transition to the next stage following their Redhill journey. The role is essential to supporting the School’s goal of providing our students with a comprehensive and inspiring education that allows them to achieve their full potential through a wide range of approaches. These include the delivery of relevant and timely advice, career pathway presentations, information and resources, and efficient counselling services to Grade 9 – 12 students and parents regarding post-secondary possibilities.
You may or may not come from a teaching background, but either way you are energetic and enthusiastic in your approach. You are knowledgeable about the world of work, and you can provide counselling around subject selection and university entry requirements (Nationally and Internationally). You are motivated by helping students think innovatively about their future careers and the opportunities that life beyond Redhill could present.
You are driven by the creation of engaging and dynamic experiences for students. You can build and maintain partnerships with further/higher education institutions and relevant bodies and will provide assistance, resources, career information, course options and industry contacts to students from the earliest stages of their career planning.
In making this appointment, Redhill is seeking applicants who, among other qualities can demonstrate:
Proven experience in establishing and building an appropriate careers pathway for Senior School students in conjunction with their families.
An understanding of both the IEB and IBDP (will be advantageous).
The ability to develop existing networks and relationships between employers, tertiary institutions and the Redhill community to ensure that students are fully informed about their future choices and career goals.
Expertise in providing education to Middle School/Senior School staff regarding counselling students about career choice and subject choice.
The ability to set up support structures for students on an on-going basis.
Experience in developing curriculum related to the world of work, which can be used in the teaching of Life Orientation.
Experience in assisting students with University applications and National and International Benchmark Tests.
The ability to track students at university.
The ability to guide students when applying to university, with personal statements.
The ability to assist students with scholarship and bursary applications.
The skill to write letters of recommendation for students.
Exceptional communications skills both written and verbal, as well as excellent time management skills.
A passion for innovative thinking.
A willingness to grow through the sharing of best practice and professional experience.
