The vacancy that follows exists at Steyn City School, effective 1 May 2024.



The successful candidate will be experienced in managing projects and teams, understanding the requirements of health and safety, and supervising operations. The candidate should hold a valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP) and an appropriate qualification. Experience in the field of Health and Safety is an advantage. Previous experience in a school is also an advantage but is not necessary.

  • Lead various teams to ensure the smooth running of all school events and functions, understanding each team’s requirements, including the facilities, events, security, cleaning and co-curricular teams.
  • Chair weekly planning meetings with the relevant team leaders.
  • Chair the weekly operations meeting.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental health and safety regulations.
  • Ensure evacuation procedures and policies are compliant.
  • Supervise and manage administrative services, including OHS requirements.
  • Co-ordinate and manage all Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures and prepare for audits.
  • Chair meetings related to OHS matters.
  • Monitor and oversee the work of external contractors to ensure terms of agreements are met and work is completed satisfactorily.
  • Assist the Facilities Manager in all areas including scheduling, tracking, organizing, and planning ahead for the maintenance of the School to ensure it remains in pristine condition.
  • Develop and carry out regular facility inspection processes for ongoing review of maintenance work, including preventative maintenance carried out via “Standard Level Agreements” (SLAs) with reputable companies.
  • Develop, recommend, and administer policies, procedures, and processes in support of grounds and building maintenance operations.
  • Administer procurement and fiscal management activities associated with building and grounds maintenance activities.
  • Trouble-shoot and respond to after-hours issues regarding the operational aspects of the facilities such as HVAC issues, fire alarm malfunctions, electrical outages, water leaks, and the like.
  • Maintain manual and electronic documents, files, and records including, but not limited to, inspection records, time sheets, work orders and requisitions, supplies, chemical storage, crisis management data, and security controls to document activities and ensure updated references.
  • Manage all outsourced services.
  • Inform the Facilities Manager before contacting contractors/service providers. Supervise service providers and contractors.
