POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Audio-visual technician responsibilities include managing sound, mixers, live streaming, and editing videos for post-production. This position also involves collaborating with the IT Manager on budgeting, AV technology procurement, and research and development of cutting-edge technologies. Work with students in the recording studio. He/She will also be required to record meetings and presentations with video cameras, and maintenance and repair equipment used to enhance live events, such as microphones, lighting, and sound mixing equipment as video recorders. The Audio-visual technician is responsible to coordinate the content and scheduling of the school’s various display screens for Digital Signage, coordinating graphics used in displays, and providing technical support for teleconferences. Coordinate all audio-visual events outside the theater which include being responsible for the setting up, operating, and coordinating of the event/s.
The Audio-Visual technician will also be expected to assist in the theater when the requirement is necessary. To oversee the general maintenance and ensure daily operations of classroom audio and video equipment are in functional order, which includes but are not limited to projectors, classroom speakers, and TV’s. He/she will perform related additional duties as required and assigned and assist the needs of users and volunteers under the direction of the Technology Manager.
Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12 or Matric
- Qualification in sound and lighting
- Coursework or training in professional AV operations, sound setups, or a related field.
Preferred Skills/Experience
- 3 or more years of experience in a related field.
- Experience with live audio mixing with band, singers and choirs.
- Ability to install, setup and test audio equipment and perform troubleshooting.
- Operational characteristics and techniques used in, sound, rigging equipment, and live stream.
- Operations, services, and activities of technical operations for live stream and A/V programs.
- Experience using post-production software for video and sound editing.
- Experience using digital signage solutions.
- Experience with Live streaming technologies like Black Magic.
- Experience with analogue and digital sound mixers and P.A systems.
- Basic principles of operational characteristics of computer hardware and software.

Performance Responsibilities
- Setup, Install and maintain Live Streaming equipment, with camera’s and video mixers.
- Oversee operation and quality of classroom AV technology to ensure equipment is in good condition.
- Move and setup sound equipment, pack-up and store after the event.
- Oversee the school’s digital signage solution.
- Use software like Adobe Premiere and Sound booth to put together post-production videos.
- Upload Videos of events on-line for the community.
- Evaluate equipment needs and notify IT Manager of the need to repair or replace as well as contacting relevant service providers to complete repairs.
- Plan, organize and implement the maintenance and operation of performance-related equipment at the various venues, including lights and lighting consoles, sound equipment, video projector, cameras, microphones, sound consoles, speakers, special effects equipment, rigging system, IT equipment, live streaming and other technical systems used during events, rehearsals, performances, and academic assessments.
- Program and run sound equipment, lighting equipment, video projector, IT equipment, rigging controls, and other technical systems during performances and productions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve problems with production equipment, monitor scene shop workspace, and the security of all equipment.
- Oversee AV integration and installation projects, including Crestron and Kramer systems, as well as managing remote control and automation setups
- Utilize proper safety practices and procedures in line with A/V equipment, and ensure all people understand safety.
- Maintain a variety of files and records of equipment and manuals in conjunction with the Technology department.
- Ensure that sufficient spares are stocked to maintain or replace equipment for which responsibility is held, including consumables.
- Be on-site to assist in performances and deal with technical emergencies or issues as required, this will include regular after hour work.
- Provide strong customer support, and attend weekly event operations meetings to schedule and coordinate AV support for events and classroom operations
- Operate and support theatre sound mixing desk when required.
- Operate and support theatre lighting desk when required.
- Perform other related duties as requested by the IT manager.
School hours: This is a 45-hour week position, with possible extended hours from time to time. Work schedule will be shared with you by your Manager.
