ASSOCIATE HEAD: FOUNDATION PHASE

At Rallim, we are dedicated to providing a nurturing and innovative educational environment for our students. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Associate Head for the Foundation Phase to join our leadership team and contribute to the ongoing success and development of our modern learning environment commencing in January 2025. First preference will be given to candidates based in Cape Town.

Role Overview:

The Associate Head (Deputy Principal) for the Foundation Phase will play a crucial role in overseeing the management of our academic programme, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and ensuring the effective integration of IT and 21st Century skills into the curriculum. The successful candidate will manage pastoral affairs using a conscious discipline and restorative practice approach, support the professional development of staff and liaise with various departments to organise and communicate events effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Academic Programme Management: Oversee the management and development of the academic programme for the Foundation Phase.
  • Curriculum Development: Promote continuous improvement and innovation in curriculum development, instructional methods and assessment and reporting practices.
  • Integration of IT: Enhance the integration of IT and 21st Century skills into the curriculum.
  • Pastoral Care: Manage pastoral affairs using a conscious discipline and restorative practice approach.
  • Communication: Maintain excellent communication with all stakeholders, including students, parents and staff.
  • Relationship Building: Foster a positive team environment and build strong working relationships within the phase.
  • Extra-Curricular Involvement: Engage in and support the extra-curricular programme.
  • Budgeting and Administration: Assist with budgeting and other Board requirements, including performance reviews.
  • Professional Development: Support the professional development of staff members.
  • Event Coordination: Liaise with the Sports, Culture and Events Departments to ensure the effective organisation and communication of events.
  • Strategic Leadership: Provide strategic leadership and oversee the day-to-day operations to foster a positive learning environment.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Educational Qualifications: Possess the relevant qualifications for the Foundation
  • Experience: At least 10 years of teaching experience with a sound knowledge of educational policies, standards and best practices.
  • Management Experience: Previous experience in a management position is advantageous.
  • Skills:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships and to create a collaborative team environment.
  • Proven track record of promoting continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Experience in managing academic programmes and integrating IT into the curriculum.
