Clifton Preparatory School is an independent co-educational school offering schooling from Grade 000 to Grade 7, with boarders from Grade 1 to Grade 7. Founded in 1942, Clifton is set on a 64-hectare estate in the KZN Midlands.
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Art Teacher to join our dynamic team. Clifton is committed to nurturing creativity and artistic expression in our students from Grades 1-7, fostering a love for the arts within a supportive and inspiring environment.
Role Overview:
As our new Art Teacher, you will play a pivotal role in guiding young artists through their creative journeys. You will develop and implement a comprehensive art curriculum, deliver engaging lessons, and support students in discovering their unique artistic voices. This position requires a professional who is enthusiastic about the arts and dedicated to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Development: Design and implement a diverse and dynamic art curriculum that inspires creativity and caters to the developmental needs of students in Grades 1-7.
- Instruction and Classroom Management: Deliver interactive art lessons that accommodate diverse learning styles, encouraging students to explore their artistic and creative potential.
- Artistic Skill Development: Provide hands-on instruction in various art forms, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and crafts, while guiding students in developing fundamental skills.
- Extracurricular Activities: Organise and lead art clubs, exhibitions, and contests. Collaborate on school-wide events, including music recitals, art shows, productions and more.
- Assessment and Feedback: Evaluate student work regularly, offering constructive feedback to foster artistic growth. Maintain accurate records of student progress.
- Resource Management: Manage art supplies and maintain an organised and well-equipped art studio.
- Professional Development: Stay current with trends in art education and actively participate in professionaldevelopment opportunities, with the ability to integrate technology into teaching.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Recognised teaching qualification preferably with Art as a major.
- Registered with the South African Council of Educators (SACE).
- Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience across all junior and senior primary grades.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong planning, organisation, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively.
- Adaptable and flexible with the ability to perform under pressure.
- Ability to inspire creativity and imagination in students.
- Knowledge of art history and presentation skills.
- A mature, empathetic, and professional approach to teaching.
- Demonstrated initiative, integrity, and capacity for innovation.
- A willingness to contribute to the school’s extra-mural activities and events as required, along with the flexibility to work additional hours and outside of regular school hours when necessary.
- Ability and willingness to assist teachers and other stakeholders with artwork, special requests, and project compilations.
