St John’s Preparatory is a leading South African, Anglican school situated on a magnificent campus in Houghton, Johannesburg, offering quality education from Pre-Primary to Grade 7. We seek to appoint a dynamic and proactive Academic Support Teacher who will report to the Headmaster of St John’s Preparatory School.
The successful candidate should:
Have a suitable degree and a teaching qualification, and be registered with SACE
Display excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
Be able to interact positively with parents and therapists
Be able to develop and sustain new ideas, including effectively tracking boys’ progress
Be able to identify boys in need of academic support and work with teachers in the classroom to provide this
Be able to incorporate training in academic support skills into the staff development programme
Be able to develop and manage a flexible system of accommodations
Have a sound practical knowledge of the curriculum
Have an appreciation of the traditions and Anglican ethos of the school
The ability to teach English at a Grade 6 or 7 level would be an advantage.
