ISASA is pleased to report that the City of Johannesburg is taking active steps to correct National CoGTA rates and tariffs for affected educational institutions in the municipality. In many cases, these new rates and tarrifs would have represented a tenfold increase over amounts paid in the previous year.
A Mayoral Committee report will advise Council that the rates for public and private schools, previously under the category “education”, will now increase by up to 5%, equal to the general rate increase. This will apply to bills levied from 1 July 2022.
The City will also be seeking a long-term solution to this problem affecting both public and independent schools.
