The National Lockdown and Payment of School Fees

South Africa is well into a nationwide lockdown and independent schools are grappling with new ways of teaching and learning, as well as running functional schooling systems in a period of unprecedented restrictions.

At the same time, parents are faced with extraordinary caregiving responsibilities and potential financial instability. In light of the current situation, ISASA is well aware of member concerns regarding payment of school fees.

This memorandum below, written for ISASA member schools, summarises the rights of schools and parents under ISASA’s Parent Contract in circumstances where teaching cannot legally continue at the school’s premises.
