The South African Council for Educators (SACE) is responsible for managing the Continuing Professional Teacher Development (CPTD) System. CPTD is a system for recognising all useful teacher development activities:
- By approving quality and credible professional development providers
- By endorsing relevant and good professional development quality activities and programmes
- By allocating professional development (PD) points to such activities
- By crediting each teacher’s CPTD account / record with the PD points they have earned
Please visit the SACE website for registration procedures.
SACE is clear that CPTD will not be used for punitive purposes. For the first two cycles of CPTD, teachers will be eased teachers into the system. There will be no penalties. However, with time, those teachers or heads who deliberately refuse to participate in CPTD will face sanctions in terms of the Code of Professional Ethics.
