MIT Africa / ISASA / St John’s College Mathematics and Science Seminar 2025

Under the theme, Quantum Science & Engineering, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), ISASA and St John’s College, are proud to invite pupils entering Grade 12 in 2025 to attend a week-long set of workshops aimed at developing advanced Mathematics and Science competencies.

This incredible opportunity is available exclusively to ISASA member-school pupils currently completing Grade 11, and who are taking Mathematics, Natural and/or Physical Science/s as matric subjects. The course has been carefully curated and will be presented by a range of dynamic undergraduate and postgraduate MIT students.

  • Dates: Monday, 6 January 2025 – Friday, 10 January 2025
  • Times: Monday: 10h30 – 16h30 | Tuesday – Thursday: 09h00 – 16h30 | Friday: 09h00 – 13h00
  • Venue: St John’s College, Houghton, Johannesburg
  • Cost: R5 100 per learner for day attendees including lunch at St John’s College. R8 100 per learner requiring accommodation and three daily meals at St John’s College.

Learners requiring accommodation may check in from Monday, 6 January 2025 and check out on Friday, 10 January 2025. An additional charge will apply for learners wishing to check in earlier. No accommodation is available on the evening of Friday, 10 January 2025.

There are only 100 places available for this incredible enrichment opportunity and the only criteria is that students must be doing Mathematics and/or Physical Science/s as subjects with a minimum 60% average. Preference will be given to pupils who are doing Advanced Programme Mathematics or Physics.

The closing date for applications is Friday, 18 October 2024, on a first come, first serve, first payment basis. Please note that the most recent Grade 11 Report will be required when applying.

Limited financial assistance is available for applicants. For those seeking financial assistance, applicants are required to submit a letter of motivation/recommendation from the Head of their school.
