  • Time: 9:30 to 16:00 on both days

  • Shuttle services and accommodation will be organised for delegates travelling from outside Gauteng.

Agenda for the conference includes:

  • Exploring technological integration: We shall delve into the integration of technology in First Additional Language (FAL) education, examining how emerging tools and platforms can enhance language acquisition, cultural understanding and communication skills. Presentations and workshops will showcase innovative applications of artificial intelligence, virtual reality, gamification and other digital resources.
  • Promoting intercultural competence: In the era of globalisation, intercultural competence is paramount. The conference will highlight strategies for fostering cultural awareness, empathy and effective communication across diverse linguistic and cultural contexts. We will explore how technology can facilitate intercultural exchanges and bridge geographical boundaries.
  • Empowering student autonomy: The fourth industrial revolution (4IR) demands adaptable and self-directed students. The conference will showcase innovative pedagogical approaches that empower students to take ownership of their language learning journey. We shall explore personalised learning, adaptive technologies and strategies for fostering student autonomy in the digital age.
  • Methodology: Introduction to non-speakers
  • Excursion to Soweto: As part of our cultural immersion experience, delegates will have the opportunity to take a brief tour down Vilakazi Street in Soweto. This iconic street is home to significant historical landmarks, including the former residences of Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu. Delegates will have the chance to explore the vibrant atmosphere, engage with local artisans and immerse themselves in the rich cultural heritage of Soweto. The excursion will be followed by a supper, providing delegates with an opportunity to network and reflect on the day’s discussions in a relaxed setting.
