A visitorship report by Kyle Lauf, Assumption Convent School
Evangelische Schule Berlin Zentrum (ESBZ) is a young school – barely 11 years old. It started operating in 2007 in the buildings of a former Communist East Berlin state school. ESBZ considers itself an innovation laboratory. In their efforts to re-imagine and re-think high school education, ESBZ’s educators have implemented a number of alternative educational methods and features.
I wanted to visit the ESBZ school to observe and learn from them. Their innovations are not necessarily all new ideas, in fact some have been around for a long time. Yet, what I found was an educational environment that is dynamic and relevant for our times, where management, teachers and learners are challenged to live and learn boldly yet humbly.
