Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) is a profile often associated with autism spectrum disorders, characterised by an extreme avoidance of everyday demands and expectations. Individuals with PDA experience high levels of anxiety when faced with requests, leading them to use various strategies to avoid these demands, such as distraction, negotiation, or even aggressive behaviours. While they may appear sociable, they often struggle with social cues and maintaining relationships. PDA can result in significant challenges in daily life, requiring tailored approaches for support and understanding. EDA (Extreme Demand Avoidance) is a term that is sometimes used interchangeably with PDA.
