The Johannesburg Holocaust & Genocide Centre (JHGC), a place of memory, education, dialogue and lessons for humanity, offers events of particular interest to educators and school groups.
In the next two months, world-renowned historians and genocide education experts will be sharing their knowledge and experience with us. They are looking forward to sharing this unique experience with you!
1st March 2023: 2pm – 5pm @ JHGC
This Educators Workshop covers topics related to the Holocaust and the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. Pawel Sawicki, Holocaust expert from the Auschwitz Birkenau State Museum, will explore the complexity of the different narrations, stories and memories that meet in a place like Auschwitz. Joining us from California State University is Nicky Fox, expert in mass atrocity, nationalism, collective memory and the aftermath of genocide. The workshop will share pedagogical tools and resources that can be used in the classroom.

Until the end of March @ JHGC
Book an education workshop before the end of March, and include a tour of the renowned exhibition, SEEING AUSCHWITZ. The tour engages students with rare, primary source photographs captured by perpetrators, victims, and liberators present at Auschwitz, and invites critical reflection and analysis.

The acclaimed historian and bestselling author will be in conversation with author and journalist, Terry Shakinovsky, to discuss his latest book, The World: A Family History.
