Education Opportunities at the Johannesburg Holocaust & Genocide Centre

The Johannesburg Holocaust & Genocide Centre (JHGC), a place of memory, education, dialogue and lessons for humanity, offers events of particular interest to educators and school groups.

In the next two months, world-renowned historians and genocide education experts will be sharing their knowledge and experience with us. They are looking forward to sharing this unique experience with you!

1st March 2023: 2pm – 5pm @ JHGC

This Educators Workshop covers topics related to the Holocaust and the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. Pawel Sawicki, Holocaust expert from the Auschwitz Birkenau State Museum, will explore the complexity of the different narrations, stories and memories that meet in a place like Auschwitz. Joining us from California State University is Nicky Fox, expert in mass atrocity, nationalism, collective memory and the aftermath of genocide. The workshop will share pedagogical tools and resources that can be used in the classroom.
