Recent tragic events and increasing risk aversion amongst educators and parent communities are causing stress and uncertainty in the planning of school trips. School trips are an important part of a learner’s education, and an international panel is currently writing a guidance standard to support schools.
The guidance standard, SANS/ISO 31031: Managing Risk for Youth and School Trips, provides a clear process through which to understand, assess and treat risks in school excursions.
This process is designed to minimize the likelihood of incidents on trips, create a strategy to manage incidents should they occur, and help document all precautions taken.
Chrysalis Project has the unique position of representing South Africa on the international standard-drafting panel. We offer a two-day workshop (12 hours) for educators and sports coaches who may be asked to lead a trip on behalf of a school.
