The Annual National Assessment (ANA) was put in place by the Department of Basic Education (DBE) as a strategy to annually measure progress in learner achievement. ANA is one of the initiatives that form the backbone of the DBE’s Action Plan to 2014: Towards the Realisation of Schooling 2025.
The writing of the 2015 ANA has been under discussion for some time since they ought to have been written in September 2015. Following resistance, mainly from labour unions, the Department of Basic Education (DBE) did not proceed with requiring that the ANA be written at the scheduled time.
The DBE has issued a circular dated 24 November 2015 which in summary conveys that the writing of the ANA will go ahead in 2015. Important content relevant to independent schools is summarised in the ISASA memorandum below.
