Join us in a celebration of the Great Game of Chess! Try to win R10 000 for your school, or take away one of the individual prizes.

We invite all schools across Southern Africa to participate in the International School of South Africa’s Schools Under 19 Chess Tournament, to be held over the weekend of Friday 1 – Sunday 3 September 2017 at the International School of South Africa, Mahikeng. Participants will be accommodated in our boarding houses on campus.

This tournament will enable High School Chess players to test their skills in a properly structured CHESSA registered tournament, which is sanctioned by both CHESSA and our North West Provincial Chess structures. All players will play 7 two-hour matches during the tournament, according to Swiss Rules.

This tournament offers Chess teams and players the opportunity to undertake a ‘mini-tour’, and immerse themselves in Chess. Chess teams are often made up of participants across different age groups, and genders, and the tournament allows for this. Schools may enter as many teams of four players as they wish for this tournament. We are aiming to host 60 teams at the tournament.

While it is a schools’ competition, the achievements of individual players will be recognised. International Masters Johannes Manyedi Mabusela and Joseph Mwale will also be playing exhibition matches as part of the programme.
