Submitting a Complaint Print E-mail

ComplaintsISASA quality assures its member schools, both on application for membership and every six years thereafter. Part of this quality assurance process is that all ISASA member schools agree to abide by the association's Conditions for Membership.

Complaints regarding instances in which a school has contravened ISASA's Conditions for Membership maybe sent by post or email to the Director: Membership and Operations.

However, before lodging a complaint with ISASA it is important to understand ISASA's relationship to its member schools and to statutory organisations in South Africa:

  1. ISASA is a voluntary association that provides school services in exchange for annual subscription fees. It is not a governing body for independent schools.
  2. As a voluntary association, ISASA has no direct control over the management or administration of individual schools. ISASA can advise schools and provide information on best practice, but it cannot compel a school to take a particular course of action.
  3. Not all independent schools belong to ISASA. Only those schools that are members of the association are subject to its Conditions for Membership.
  4. A school may terminate its ISASA membership at any time, and ISASA also reserves the right to suspend or terminate a school’s membership if the school no longer complies with ISASA’s Conditions for Membership.
  5. ISASA does not take the place of any government department or statutory organisation. Several statutory organisations already exist that monitor and regulate independent school compliance with South African law. Parents and learners always have recourse to these organisations.
