 CIE History Conference

12-13 August 2010

Hosted by Chesterhouse Senior School
D’Urbanvale Estate, Durbanville, Western Cape

Our intention is to gather history teachers, particularly those teaching in the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) programme, to share ideas, resources, teaching methods, exam preparation and also our concerns regards CIE history teaching.

We hope this process will leave each teacher more excited about their teaching, more confident about an area of history not previously their forte, having built a network which makes it easier to pick up a phone or fire of an email to a friendly partner in crime when something concerns you or you have discovered an exciting new book / website / teaching method etc.

While we have drawn up a provisional plan for the conference, we would like to meet the needs of all teachers, so please let us know what your needs are.

It would also be great if as many teachers as possible would share an aspect of the work they do. So please tell us about sessions, even just 10min long, you would like to lead, or any suggestions of speakers or activities you might have.

The primary goal is to ensure we increase our confidence in preparing the students to excel in the exams.

The cost of the conference is R900. Deposit of R400 payable by 1 May and the balance 1 July. This includes lunch and teas on both days, but not accommodation and evening meals.
