A MUSIC CONFERENCE/WORKSHOP WITH A DIFFERENCE Thursday, 15 May at 10:00 until Saturday, 17 May at 14:00 St John's College Houghton, Johannesburg The course is aimed at singers, conductors, instrumentalists and teachers. In the process of learning from musicians who are specialists in their field, it is hoped that teachers and musicians will be able to raise standards in their own spheres of influence.
All speakers will run workshops and fulfil the need to work at preparatory school and secondary school levels - the emphasis is on practical participation and learning.
GUEST SPEAKERS: Gro Kruse is associate professor of Aural Training at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. Kåre Hanken is the Norwegian Choir Association’s Secretary General, and is internationally known as a choral conducting pedagogue in Europe, the East and America. Svein Bjørkøy is Head of the Vocal department at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. Nick Carter, Head of Contemporary music at St John’s College, will be giving a lecture on Improvisation for Prep Pupils and College pupils. Rosemary Nalden leads the internationally known Buskaid string players. Jill Richards, critically acclaimed Steinway and Sons artist and doyenne of 20th century piano music in South Africa, will be giving a performance lecture of “How to listen to 20th Century Music”. Sidumo Nyamezele is heading the African Music programme as St John’s College, Johannesburg. COST: R1 500 per person. This includes light lunches and suppers.
